Preparation

In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.

Gradually add water and knead to form a smooth and soft dough. Add more water if needed.

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.

Divide the dough into small equal-sized balls.

Heat a tawa or griddle on medium-high heat.

Take a dough ball and roll it into a round roti using a rolling pin and some dry flour for dusting.

Place the rolled roti onto the hot tawa and cook for about 30 seconds.

Flip the roti and cook the other side for about a minute or until golden brown spots appear.

Remove from the tawa and brush with melted butter or ghee (optional).

Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

Serve the tawa roti hot with your favorite curries or dal.
