Preparation

1
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, yogurt, minced garlic, chopped onion, and coriander leaves.

3
Mix well to form a soft dough. If the dough is too dry, add a little more warm water.

4
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

6
Preheat a tawa or griddle over medium-high heat.

7
Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a round or oval shape.

8
Brush the top of each naan with water and sprinkle some nigella seeds.

9
Place the naan on the preheated tawa, water-side down. Cook until bubbles start to form on the surface.

10
Flip the naan and cook the other side until golden brown spots appear.

11
Remove from heat and brush the cooked naan with butter.

12
Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

13
Serve the garlic onion naan hot with your favorite curry or dip.
